🎯 Community Spotlight: Discovering the Heart of the “Bowlsie”
There is a unique kind of magic at the Mackay RSL Memorial Bowls Club (our beloved Slade Point Bowls Club). Nestled right next to Cathy Freeman Park at 30 Wren Street, this is so much more than just a place to bowl—it is a welcoming extension of our neighborhood living room. As a cornerstone of local history and a proud RSL Memorial club, it effortlessly bridges generations. It provides a relaxed seaside haven where long-time locals, military veterans, and young families share stories, laughs, and a cold drink.
Whether you are a seasoned bowler tracking the bias across the grass or completely new to the sport, there is a space on the green for you. The club truly comes alive during Wednesday and Saturday afternoon social bowls, alongside laid-back barefoot bowls sessions that are perfect for a casual weekend with friends. Step inside the clubhouse, and you will find the vibrant community spirit stretching well past the rinks. Thursdays are a local highlight, with doors opening at 6:00 pm until late for the weekly Thursday night pool competition, alongside regular community events and solemn annual gatherings like our ANZAC Day services.
Planning a visit or organizing an upcoming birthday, family reunion, or community function? You can easily hire the venue by chatting with the friendly team at (07) 4955 1932. Drop by this week to say hello and see why this little club holds such a big place in the heart of Slade Point!
